SMS status show expired/undelivered and not received on handset

I wanted to address the recent issues you’ve encountered with your SMS campaign, specifically the statuses “Expired” and “Undelivered.” Here’s what these statuses mean:

UNDELIV/Undelivered

Description: This status indicates that the SMS could not be delivered due to low connectivity or other network issues affecting the recipient’s device.

Action: Consider resending the message later or checking if the recipient is experiencing network issues.

EXPIRED

Description: This status appears when the SMS cannot be delivered because the recipient’s phone is switched off, out of coverage range, or experiencing other network problems.

Action: Similar to undelivered messages, try resending the SMS after some time or verify the recipient’s network status.

How to Minimize Errors

  1. Download Detailed Reports:
    • Review the report for numbers marked as expired and undelivered.
    • Call a few of these numbers to check their status. If a significant percentage of these numbers are unreachable, it may affect the delivery to your active numbers.
    • Solution: Remove numbers that are permanently off or no longer in use.
  2. Temporary Network Issues:
    • Switched Off: If a recipient’s phone is off when the SMS is sent, it won’t be delivered.
    • Low Network Area: The network may attempt to deliver the SMS multiple times, but if the recipient remains in a low connectivity area, the message may still go undelivered.
    • In the low network area some time call can be delivered but when hit the sms so the sms may not be delivered (due to both run on diffrent frequiency )
  3. OTP SMS Delivery:
    • If an OTP SMS is sent while the recipient is in a low network area, the network will typically attempt delivery for about one minute. If it’s not successful, the message will be marked as failed.
    • Check Your SMS Route: Ensure you’re using the correct service for OTP messages (e.g., Transaction SMS vs. OTP SMS).

By taking these steps, you can enhance the effectiveness of your SMS campaigns and reduce delivery issues.
